Our Building Surveyor has over 30 years of experience. He has worked in over half a dozen Councils in Tasmania and Interstate. He has worked as a Manager and Acting Director within the Council.
The first step is to find out from the Council if a Planning Permit is required or if your project is Planning exempt. You should obtain the decision in writing as it will be required by your Building Surveyor.
There are 4 categories of works. Your Building Surveyor will determine which category your project falls under. Most projects, if carried out by a licensed Builder, the work will become Notifiable. This means that the Certificate of Likely Compliance is like the Building Permit.
Your house renovation might still require approval from your Building Surveyor. Even though you may not be adding or removing structural walls.

We are a paperless office. This has many advantages and we encourage our customers to be the same. However, we can still print your approval for an additional fee, most times it’s done at no charge. Your money is best spent on your project.

We are required to keep run-off insurance for a period of 10 years. Depending on the type of defect, if found within 12 months, you may be able to have the Builder rectify it at their cost. Make sure that you notify your Building Surveyor by email if defects are found. Your Building Surveyor may not be able to assist you with all defects.

The regulatory process can be difficult to navigate, however, we will be right alongside you for the journey. Our Building Surveyor has been involved with the regulatory system. He was a member of the Building Regulatory Advisory Committee (BRAC) for over 3 terms.
